Personal access tokens

Sick of having to use your own credentials to link with a third party?

Tired of breaking your builds when you change your password?

If this sounds painfully familiar, we've added personal access tokens, just for you. Use a personal access token to:

  • integrate with a third party application
  • provide authentication (not login), instead of using basic auth, or
  • use it as a bearer token.

No longer will you need to put your user name and password in a script, or give it to a third party application. Instead, you can simply revoke the token when it is no longer needed. You can keep your password forever if you want! (That's a joke, please don't ever do this).

They're easy to set up, and can be edited at any time.

Restrict the permissions your token has, and it will only do what you want it to do, rather than being forced to use your password.

To learn more, check out the new personal access tokens section.

The people have spoken... Rebase for Bitbucket Server is here

Rebasing allows you to merge feature branch commits onto the tip of your master branch, increasing readability by creating a linear history. By moving your commits to the tip of the branch, you retain existing commits, and simply add yours.

Bitbucket Server are committed to letting teams work in a way they find most productive and a rebase workflow helps enable that.

We've added three core areas of functionality:

  • two new merge strategies, rebase fast-forward and rebase, merge.
  • pull request: there is now a rebase action to update your pull request branch.
  • for forks that are synced with the parent repo but aren't syncing, you can use rebase to bring it up to date.

The team understand not everyone uses this workflow, and made sure to include a bitbucket.properties flag that allows the feature to be disabled globally if needed.

For a deep dive into the feature, watch this video by our Principal Product Manager, Roger Barnes.

See using rebase in Bitbucket Server for more information.
