Documentation for GreenHopper 6.2.x. Documentation for earlier versions of GreenHopper is [available too].

(info) Note that this page only applies if you are using the Classic Boards (which are no longer being actively developed; read more).

The GreenHopper Classic Task Board provides you with visibility into the progress of ongoing versions and offers two viewing modes:

  • Compact (Kanban) Mode — shows the standard Task Board, with a column for each mapped status.
  • Outline Mode — shows a mini Task Board for every issue that has sub-tasks.

To select the viewing mode for your Classic Task Board project,

  1. Log into JIRA.
  2. Select Agile > Classic in the top navigation bar. Then select Classic Task Board from the drop-down below the project name.
  3. Select your project from the project dropdown (top left of the Task Board above the 'Task Board' dropdown), if it is not already selected. The Task Board will refresh with information for your project.
  4. Click the Views dropdown menu and select one of the following viewing modes:

(tick) Tip: Refer to the Navigation Bar instructions for information about using the Task Board's navigation bar.
(tick) Tip: Refer to Using Classic Task Board Views for information about the 'Card', 'Summary' and 'List' views.

On this page:

Compact (Kanban) Mode

The compact mode is the standard Task Board view. Simple columns populated with the issues based on the mapping defined in the Task Board mapping. Users will be able to drag and drop the issues from one column to another based on their permissions and the board mapping. Your project administrator can also add columns via the project configuration.

Outline Mode

In outline mode, GreenHopper will create a small Task Board for every issue that has sub-tasks. The parent issue will be represented as the header of a small Task Board that will be populated with all of the parent issue's sub-tasks. This makes the progress of the parent easier to follow. All issues without sub-tasks will populate a Task Board at the bottom of the page called 'Other Issues'.

    Nicholas,

in the outline view, each of the [primary] columns ("to do", "in progress", etc) show a list of issues and these lists' columns have the following fields: ID, Priority, Summary and story points. Is there a way to add fields to these [sub]columns?

I also noticed that there is yet another type of abbreviated list view that appears when the mouse is moved over the numbers of any of the additional pages (when pagination occurs in this view)

    thanks, Nick

    1. Hi Nikolaus,

      Thanks for your query.

In the outline view there is the parent and the child, the parent has the details offered in the complete list view. For the child we use a 'compact' list view that only displays the first field and the 'corner' field which is configured on the bottom right of the card view. We do this due to space limitations on our minimum supported resolution.

This is an area that we are addressing in an upcoming release.

      Thanks Nikolaus.

      Nicholas Muldoon

    HI,

Why the Done doesn't show the sum of the work marked Resolved and Closed, but remains zero?

    hello,

Is there a way to present swimlanes in GreenHopper? I've found swimlanes to reference columns in some documentation, but I'd be interested in adding a vertical axis to the pipeline view created from issues statuses. Searched the issues & documentation but was unable to conclude..

    br,

    Martti Söderlund

    1. Hi Martti,

      Thanks for your query.

At present, it is not possible to have horizontal swimlanes in GreenHopper. There is an open story for this feature - GHS-2478 - which you may wish to comment, vote and watch.

      Thank you Martti.

Is there a way to get a permalink to the task board for a particular project and fix version?

    1. Hi Dave,

Yes: you can click the "refresh" symbol to the right of the context name to generate a URL that is project-specific and version-specific (although please note it is not context-specific).

      Regards,
      Rosie

Thanks very much, just what I was wanting.

    Hi,

I find the "Outline mode" very useful. however is it possible to have the same presentation with en Epic and its stories ?

    Thanks

    Richard

    1. Hi Richard,

It is not possible to use the outline mode for epics and stories. You may wish to vote and comment on GHS-2579 to show your support for this feature.

      Thanks Richard.

Is there a way to get the parent task to update its status when a subtask is moved, i.e a parent moved from open to in progress when the first subtask is moved to in progress from open? Thanks.

in Agile.Taskboard.  I would like to select all versions.  in the same way i can select All Assignees.

does anyone know how to select any version?

    thanks in advance.

    1. Hello,

It is not possible to select all versions on the Task Board. You may wish to look at Using the Rapid Board, as the Rapid Board will allow you to display all versions.

      Thank you.

Is it possible to change the horizontal order of the Task Board columns? I am used to working from right-to-left, but when I move the "To Do" column to the far right in the Task Board Mapping tab and view the Task Board again, issues in that column are marked with a strike-through, as if they have been completed, and issues in "Done", which is now on the far left, no longer have a strike-through.

I set up a couple of types of subtask and only the one called "Subtask" appears in the Outline mode. In the Kanban mode everything works fine. Is there a way to tell Greenhopper to use all the Subtask types in Outline mode?

Nevermind - I had misconfigured that one story in my board. All is well.

My "to do" tasks are not shown in the task board in the "To do" column. If I "Start Progress" the task, it is shown under "In progress" column, thats ok. But the "Open" tasks are not visible in the taskboard. How can I see these tasks in the "To Do" column?

    Thanks, Dirk

    1. You may need to check that your Task Board columns are mapped to the appropriate Statuses. Please see Configuring your Task Board Settings.

Many thanks for the answer. Ok, thats an admin setting, and not my mistake (wink)  I will ask our admin to fix this.
