- There could be more than one configuration-related issue that could cause the below behaviour:
a) All users are not able to see the "Link issues" button in the issue view.
b) One or more users are unable to link issues in one or more projects.
c) A specific user reports that the "Link issues" button is missing in the issue view screen while it is visible to other users.
Potential causes and solution
There are multiple causes for this behaviour and they may be due to one of the below configuration issues:
- Global issue linking is turned off in the cloud site and hence none of the users are able to link issues across projects. To resolve the issue, please see the following article to activate the global issue linking feature: Configure Issue Linking
- The "Linked Issue" field is not added to the relevant field screens and hence users are unable to link issues in one or more projects. To resolve the issue, ensure that the "Linked issue" field is added to the desired screen such as Create, Edit or View screen. See this document for reference on how to add a field to a screen: Add a field to a screen
- The "Linked Issue" field is hidden in the project's field configuration and hence the field is not visible in the issue view for one or more users across one or more projects. To resolve this, change the "Linked Issue" field to "Show" in the field configuration. See reference documentation: Specify field behaviour
- The "Link issues" project permission is not granted to one or more users and hence they are unable to link issues or see the "Link issues" button in Jira issue view. To resolve this, grant "Link issues" permission in the project permission scheme. See reference documentation: Manage project permissions
- The issue status trying to be linked has the workflow property jira.issue.editable false and is being linked through the JSM queue view.
