If you have issues that haven’t been updated for a long period, such as two years or more, they can clutter your Jira instance and impact its performance.

Archiving such issues can significantly improve the loading speed of agile boards, reduce indexing time, and ensure that your search results and pickers display relevant information. This is also an effective way to keep your instance organized while preserving important historical data.

To access issues archiving in Instance optimizer:

  1. In the upper-right corner of your Jira application, select Jira administration, and then select System.

  2. In the sidebar, navigate to the Instance optimizer section and click Overview.

  3. In the Issue archiving, select View issues. This will open a page with search results for issues last updated for than 100 weeks ago, and you can identify the ones that are appropriate for archiving.

Identify issues that should be archived

A practical way to identify issues for archiving is to focus on those that haven’t been updated for an extended period of time. For instance, if there hasn’t been any activity on an issue for two years, it’s a strong indication that it is ready to be archived.
