Documentation for GreenHopper 6.2.x. Documentation for earlier versions of GreenHopper is [available too].

(info) Note that this page only applies if you are using the Classic Boards (which are no longer being actively developed; read more).

To print issues in card form,

  1. Log into JIRA.
  2. Select Agile > Classic in the top navigation bar. Then select Classic Planning Board from the drop-down below the project name.
  3. Select your project from the project dropdown in the top left of the Planning Board, if it is not already selected.
  4. Select the desired view mode.
  5. In the right-hand column of the page, your chosen version (or component, or assignee) will be highlighted in a yellow box. Click the icon (which will at the top right of the highlighted box appear when you hover) to display a drop-down menu.
  6. Select Print Cards from the drop-down menu. This will select all the issues associated with the highlighted box for print. For example, if you want to print all the issues in a particular version, simply select the 'Version' mode of your Planning Board, choose the version in which you are interested, then use the drop-down menu that will appear in the yellow highlighted box for that version in the right-hand column.
  7. The Print Cards dialog box will appear.
  8. In the Header Information section, select the check-boxes if you want to display the following information at the top of each printed page:
    • プロジェクト名
    • Context Name
    • Version/Component/Assignee
    • クイック フィルター
  9. In the Page Layout section, select how many issues you wish to display per page.
  10. Click the Print button.
  11. The print dialog for your browser will display. Select your printing preferences and print your issues.

(info) The pictures and background colours used for printing are taken from your browser settings.

Need to print the descriptions of all the stories in one shot. how can i do that?

  2. Anonymous

How can I print a particular user story and its sub tasks. Sometimes we have to add an ad hoc user story and would like to put it up on the scrum board.

    1. Printing cards is not available in native GreenHopper for the new (Rapid) Board at this time. Please see the Spartez plugin mentioned below.

I only want to print a single card.  Not the whole version.  Why can't I do that?

We are using the RapidBoard and therefore we are using the Sprint-Feature. How can I print only those stories and tasks that are within one sprint?

I'd like to second this request. At the moment I am using the rapid board feature to pull items into the sprint, but would like a Print feature added to the rapid board to print the items in the sprint. At the moment we are pulling the same stories into a regular Greenhopper sprint and using that to print them. Is there an easier way?

I third that request, please. It's difficult switching back and forth between JIRA and two versions of Greenhopper during my project workflow.

      4th request...

    4. Hello,

Please use the Spartez Agile Cards for JIRA plugin. You can find the issues you want to print via the Sprint Report for the current sprint (once you have started the sprint the Sprint Report will be available), simply click on the View in Issue Navigator link and then use the Agile Cards plugin to print.

See their page (above) for a video demo.

      Thank you.

      Nicholas Muldoon

This plugin is not available with on-demand version and you have to buy a license.

Moreover this was a functionnality of the standard version. Is there any plan to have it in the board version ?

A print card functionnality is important when you want to keep the physical board team dynamic in Agile.

        Thank in advance

        Lionel Champalaune

        1. Hi Lionel,

There is no plan to introduce this feature to the new boards at this time.

I recommend you explore the JIRA Wallboards plugin, which is bundled with OnDemand, for visualising the teams board.

          Thank you,
          Nicholas

Please, Atlassian, can someone respond to all of these questions.  Many of these are "how-to's" which indicates that more information is needed in the documentation.  It is certainly fair to request any desires to submit as a Feature request or post on the Answers board.  But, having the ability to comment on documentation is supposed to help you clarify the documentation for your end users.  Please respond.

    1. Thanks Kalynn, I've now incorporated the above comments into this documentation where possible.

The remaining comments relate to features which are not available in native GreenHopper for the (Rapid) Board at this time – for further options, please see the Spartez plugin mentioned by Nick.

Thank you for the updates.  Unfortunately, OnDemand users, such as us, cannot use plugins.  Therefore, any resolution requiring a plugin is unacceptable.  I am surprised when Atlassian has often stated that user macros and plugins will resolve user issues, but they will not enable such solutions in the OnDemand environment. Therefore, the issue should not be resolved until it is addressed for OnDemand users as well.

        1. Hi Kalynn,

There is no plan to introduce this feature to the new boards at this time.

I recommend you explore the JIRA Wallboards plugin, which is bundled with OnDemand, for visualising the teams board.

          Thank you,
          Nicholas

This is a dealbreaker for us as JIRA and Greenhopper users. My organisation has been evaluating both products on a small scale, but the lack of print functionality makes us not want to go for full deployment (so that's a big "LOSS" in the sales column for Atlassian...)

Without the possibility to print physical cards from sprints, the effort in getting stories out onto our whiteboards is just too great (Excel export, import into custom Excel macro, print cards from this...), and as has been mentioned before, the Spartez plugin is not available for OnDemand users, and the wallboard plugin does not support printing either.

Printing cards seems like a standard feature, and it just seems weird to actively choose not to include this (as Nicholas mentions above). The only reason I can think of is that this would enable users to just have a single user license and then print stories on paper cards to use on whiteboards, and by omitting printing JIRA/Greenhopper is forcing people to use digital versions. But as been mentioned before, our infrastructure does not support having large displays with wallboards and such that can be viewed by all project members.

We really like the JIRA/Greenhopper combo, but this is just fail on such a major level that we're starting to look elsewhere for other tools. Also, we no longer recommend JIRA as a planing tool to others in our area.

But perhaps there's something that we're missing? Maybe there's a simple "Print"-button hidden in some dropdown we have overlooked? *crossing fingers

(BTW, adding a print layout to sprint boards does not seem like a big effort, but maybe there are complexities that I'm not aware of?)

another option for printing out fully customizable story cards from JIRA is the JIRA PDF View Plugin.

you can leverage all possibilities of the PDF fileformat (rich text formatting, beautiful fonts, embedded images, web links, grid layout, custom paper size) and JIRA (adding/showing/hiding standard and custom fields, showing subtasks ) to get exactly what you want.

As an OnDemand user, we are unable to take advantage of plugins and Atlassian hasn't provided a timeline for their new plugin framework.

The response to use wallboards is unacceptable.  That assumes you have the technology and security to display these throughout the office areas.  We are like many other scrum teams, where sprint cards are posted on physical walls throughout the building, in the team area, and updated throughout the day.  It is not a daily scrum activity; nor is it possible to have everyone view a wallboard during daily scrums - again, this assumes that the technology is always available where you hold your daily scrums.

I applaud Atlassian for continuous product improvement. But, it is disappointing and frustrating when they introduce replacement products, that they are not considering the user base and the features that are being used and for specific reasons.  Whether this is printing cards, ease of drag and drop between versions, version hierarchy, etc. – these are ignored.  If you want early adopters, it definitely is good to provide the better product.  But, until feature parity for the features being used, align with the methodologies being promoted, and have value, users either need to work in both or cannot adopt because it can be confusing rolling out to hundreds of end users that they must now utilize two tools because the one now being developed doesn't have the basics used in the prior boards and, btw, no improvements are being made to the others and it will be going away.

It is a separate plugin now to print?

Seems like you're breaking out a 'core feature', to make it a 'new feature' and charge for it...

    https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.spartez.scrumprint.scrumplugin

How soon can we expect the next core feature to be removed and made into a 'plug-in'?

Maybe next it will be the 'Create Issue' plug-in?

Can you please describe in detail how a person is supposed to print tickets from the rapid boards now using OnDemand? I just convinced my team to switch to this new format from classic and the first question after setting up the sprints.. How do we print these? This is a complete fail if we have to use alternate products in order to achieve what was available in classic boards. Please explain to me how we do morning huddle around a monitor. We are using on demand.

Currently rolling everything back to classic. (sad)

    Atlassian,

Please help me save the rainforest, I don't think I should have to pay $1500 to simply filter the issues by sprint.
Don't #@!% the customer should apply to the planet as well  (smile)

    1. Not sure if this helps, but in GreenHopper 6.1.2 you can now right-click your selected issues (e.g. all issues in a particular sprint) in Plan mode, and choose View in Issue Navigator – you can then export or print a summary of the issues.

      1. Jon Sword

        Hi Rosie,

Thanks for the tip! I upgraded just now to try it and it is a great improvement to be able to easily select the issues, but I believe people are still going to want to print in a card format.

        Regards,
        Jon

      2. Anders Ekbom

You're right, it doesn't help. The print views are just long lists of text with (from a GH/story/card perspective) a lot of useless details at the top, and are not connected to GH's sprints. And no, I don't want to have to reformat the lists in Word, or put together an Excel-macro just to print something that resembles a card.

Why is this so difficult to fix? *Honest question.

This is a core issue with companies trying to move to an on-demand (cloud) version of a product.  Features, such as plugin support, often get left out of the equation.  The whole point behind printing cards is so that "everyone" can see how a sprint is progressing.  Not just the few actually working on the sprint.  And, it gets everyone up from their desk to interact with each other.  Someone has lost the purpose behind it all.  Fail!

  12. Elaine Martinez

I need to print out Agile cards.  This is a MUST.  I agree with Ekbom, I don't want to have to reformat my lists in Excel or Word.  Come on Atlassian, get on it!!!
