By selecting the 'External user management' option in Confluence, you can disable the group and user management screens in Confluence. You need system administrator permissions to set this option.
Bug and Improvement Request
Currently there are two bugs and an improvement request with this feature:
- CONF-16709 — when the External User Management tick box is enabled, the group and user management screens are still functional.
- CONF-21158 — enabling both Public Signup and External User Management renders a blanks screen during signup.
- CONF-9830 — an open request to rename this feature to better reflect its functionality.
When to use this option:
- If Crowd's directory permissions are configured so that Confluence cannot update the Crowd directories, then Confluence's external user management setting must be turned on. Otherwise, a 'System Error' will occur when Confluence attempts to write data into Crowd. For more information about integrating Crowd with Confluence, please refer to Integrating Crowd with Atlassian Confluence.
- If you are using JIRA, disabling Confluence's group and user management screens is recommended. This centralises user management from within JIRA, and is recommended because JIRA provides the ability to delegate user management to use JIRA logins.
To disable management of users and groups within Confluence,
Go to the Confluence 'Administration Console'. To do this:
- Open the 'Browse' menu and select 'Confluence Admin'. The 'Administrator Access' login screen will be displayed.
- Enter your password and click 'Confirm'. You will be temporarily logged into a secure session to access the 'Administration Console'.
- Select 'Security Configuration' in the left-hand panel.
- In the 'Security Configuration' screen, click 'Edit'.
- Check the 'External user management' checkbox.
- [保存] をクリックします。
