Migration of insecure password encoders

Internal directories in Crowd can be configured to utilize encryption for user passwords. This setting ensures that Crowd applies a one-way hash function to user passwords before processing them, making it impossible to decrypt later:

  • When a user is created or their password is updated, the password is encrypted prior to being stored within the database.

  • When a user enters their credentials on login, the password is encrypted prior to being compared with the stored value.

The following encoders are no longer supported when creating new internal directories, as they’re considered insecure, however, they're still available for existing directories:

  • PLAINTEXT

  • MD5

  • SHA

  • SSHA

Deprecated APR protocol password encryption for Crowd 7

The APR/Native library and the APR/Native Connectors (both AJP and HTTP) are deprecated in Tomcat 10 and will be removed in Tomcat 10.1.x onwards. Specifically, the Http11AprProtocol (HTTP connector) and the AjpAprProtocol (AJP connector) are deprecated.

This means that the com.atlassian.secrets.tomcat.protocol.AjpAprProtocolWithPasswordEncryption and com.atlassian.secrets.tomcat.protocol.Http11AprProtocolWithPasswordEncryption protocols are no longer supported in Crowd 7.

End of support for CrowdID (OpenID server) and the OpenID client

Announced 24 August 2023, Updated 29 January 2024

Atlassian will end support for CrowdID (OpenID server) and the OpenID client in Crowd 5.3.0.

End of support means that Atlassian will not offer support for, or fix bugs related to CrowdID (OpenID server) or the OpenID client past the end of support date.

Crowd versions released after the end of support date will no longer feature CrowdID (OpenID server) or the OpenID client.

End of support for the HSQL 1.x database

2023 年 8 月発表

Atlassian will end support for HSQLDB 1.x (HyperSQL DataBase) in Crowd 5.2.0. End of support means that Atlassian will not fix bugs in HSQLDB 1.x past the support end date.

Crowd ships with a built-in database for evaluation purposes, and currently this is HSQLDB 1.x. As of Crowd 5.2.0, Crowd will ship with HSQLDB 2.7.x as its built-in database.

HSQLDB 1.x End of Support Notes:

  • Crowd 5.1 will be the last major version of Crowd to officially support HSQLDB 1.x for evaluation use.
  • Crowd 5.1.x and older versions will continue to work with HSQLDB 1.x for evaluation use. However, we will not fix bugs affecting HSQLDB 1.x past the support end date.
  • Crowd 5.2 will not be tested with HSQLDB 1.x.

End of support for Java 8 and 11

Announced 28 April 2023

Atlassian will end support for Java 8 and 11 in one of the upcoming platform or feature releases of Crowd.

End of support means that Atlassian will not offer support for, or fix bugs related to, running future Crowd versions on this Java version.

Older Crowd versions will continue to work with Java 8 and 11, however, we won't fix bugs affecting this Java version after the end-of-life date for your version of Crowd.

Newer Crowd versions will not be tested with Java 8 and 11.

Check out the Supported Platforms page for the list of supported Java versions.

Deprecated browsers for Crowd

Announced 24 September 2019

In 2015 Microsoft released Edge as the browser to supersede Internet Explorer, and in recent times Microsoft has discouraged the use of Internet Explorer as a default browser. To allow us to continue to take advantage of modern web standards to deliver improved functionality and the best possible user experience across all of our products, we have decided to end support for Internet Explorer 11.

サポートが終了すると、Internet Explorer 11 に固有のバグは修正されず、このブラウザとの互換性のない機能が実装されます。

実施タイミングについて

  • The last Crowd version to support Internet Explorer 11 will be confirmed soon.
  • 以降のバージョンは、Internet Explorer 11 をサポートしません。

この変更による影響

We recommend switching to one of our supported browsers, such as Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
