How to manage Public Holidays in Opsgenie to avoid routing the Alerts

目的

As part of your business needs, you may want to add holidays to your team's calendar in Opsgenie to avoid alerts from being routed or to have a specific on-call schedule.

Opsgenie Cloud.

Currently, there is no built-in way to set a public holiday in the Opsgenie schedule.

We have a feature request to implement this functionality.

While we wait for this functionality to be available, we can still achieve the same results using Alert and Maintenance Policies.

Opsgenie policies are only available for Standard and Enterprise plans; hence, this workaround is only valid for those.

方法


Create a new Team

Create a new Team (Ex: Holiday Team - Workaround) to route the Alerts.
This team will have an empty schedule if you want to avoid routing the alerts, but you can also define a custom schedule here (Ex: having a specific one for holidays)

Create a new Global Alert Policy

Create a Global Alert Policy (Ex: Holiday Catcher - Global rule) to match All alerts or apply filters if required and assign the team created in the previous step as responders (Ex: Holiday Team - Workaround).

Applying filters in this rule gives extra flexibility as it's possible. For instance, you can see how we're filtering for Alerts with P1 priority in the following screenshot, so they are still routed.


Please leave this policy disabled, as it will be enabled by the Maintenance Policy we will be creating in the next step.

Create Maintenance Policies to map Holidays.

Create new Maintenance Policies (Ex: Holiday-KB) (This must be done for each holiday you want to set.)

Select Time: Scheduled and choose the desired time ranges using Starts on/Ends on
Under Maintenance rules select the following options:
Type: Policy
State: Enable and select the Alert Policy that will be enabled during this period (Ex: Holiday Catcher - Global rule)



This way, only critical alerts will be routed to your team during Holidays.
