Comments can be added at the level of a review, revision, or line. You can also reply to a comment.

Locating existing comments

The number shown next to a filename, in the left-hand column of the screen, indicates the number of comments that apply to that file.

(The number of unread comments, if there are any, is shown in brackets.)

Adding a Comment

  • To add a comment that applies to the whole review, select the 'Review Comments' line in the left-hand navigation panel, then click the following icon:
  • To add a comment that applies to a revision/change, select the filename in the left-hand navigation panel, then click the following icon:
  • To add a source-level comment, expand the source view then click a line of code. You can click and drag to select multiple lines from one revision or diff, or click individual lines to select/deselect them. The comment will appear in the source at the last line selected. Hover over the comment to highlight the selected lines.
    • (info) To select text on the page without adding a comment, hold down the Alt button while dragging the cursor.
  • To reply to a comment, click the 'Reply' link at the bottom of the comment.

(warning) Only people with the 'Comment' permission can add comments.

Draft Comments

You can save your comment as a draft and then edit it later. When you complete the review , you will be prompted to post, discard or edit any remaining draft comments.

    The figures on this page are from Crucible 2.0.x and indicate the numbers of comments under the revision numbers.  In 2.1 it changed that it only shows the total number of comments behind the file name.  This can make it difficult to find "hidden" comments. 

    CRUC-2797 "Show the number of relevant comments for the current diff in addition to the total for the file" has been opened to address this issue. It suggest showing something like "1 of 3" to indicate how many relevant comments there are for the current view.  Please vote on this issue.

    I have also reported getting errors if you try to use a URL to access a "hidden" comment from your "Favourites."

    Presently each participant gets a separate e-mail whenever a comment is posted. Sending a digest if a number of drafts are posted at the same time would be less annoying.

    With regards to the above - currently the only way to post draft comments is to start completing/summarizing the review; if you are not ready to do so, you can still do it by pretending that you want to complete/summarize it, post the drafts, and then cancel out. Providing a more direct way to do so would be better - people just can't find this option unless they are very persistent.
