The Universal Plugin Manager (UPM) provides you with a simple way of adding new plugins to your application. Plugins can be used to customise and extend the functionality of your application.
You can search for plugins in the Universal Plugin Manager (sourced from the Atlassian Plugin Exchange) or upload your own.

- In JIRA, version 1 plugins cannot be installed via the Universal Plugin Manager. All version 1 JIRA plugins listed in the Universal Plugin Manager will have a Download button, rather than an Install button. You will need to download the plugin distribution and follow its specific installation instructions (the plugin is usually copied into the
<JIRA-install>/atlassian-jira/WEB-INF/lib directory, as instructed in Managing JIRA's Plugins). - In JIRA, version 1 plugins cannot be uninstalled via the Universal Plugin Manager. Hence, none of the version 1 JIRA plugins listed in the Universal Plugin Manager will have an Uninstall button. You must remove the plugin from the file system manually.
- In Confluence, you can install and uninstall version 1 plugins using the Universal Plugin Manager. You will see an Install or an Uninstall button.
- Some entries that you find listed in the Universal Plugin Manager are not actually plugins. For example, the JIRA Client is a useful program that runs alongside JIRA, rather than inside it as a plugin. These entries will show a Download button which allows you to download the application to your desktop and run it following its specific instructions.
