The problem occurs while doing a Project import from a cloud instance XML backup. It happens when the Build number of the cloud instance does not match with the JIRA Server Build number. Generally, the Cloud instance is at the latest build. The build number is different from the Version number.

Steps to reproduce the issue:

1. Take a cloud XML backup.
2. Perform a project import after setting up the requirement mentioned in the documentation Restoring a Project from Backup.
3. You are not able to perform the project with the error "

   This data appears to be from an older version of JIRA. Please upgrade the data and try again. The current version of JIRA is at build number '70112', but the supplied backup file was for build number '71001'"

The following appears in the atlassian-jira.log:

2015-12-03 18:03:25,884 JiraTaskExectionThread-3 ERROR tal 1083x2643x1 ojtciz 192.168.2.18 /secure/admin/ProjectImportSelectBackup.jspa [c.a.j.imports.project.DefaultProjectImportService] This data appears to be from an older version of JIRA. The issue happens when performing project import from JIRA Cloud backup to a self-hosted JIRA instance.

原因

The issue is caused by the incompatible build number with the XML backup and the target instance, happens only when doing a project import from a cloud XML backup to JIRA server instance.

As per our documentation this is expected:

You cannot import a project directly from JIRA Cloud to JIRA Server — the importer will display errors about version mismatches.
