Scope of automation rule showing project ID instead of name

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

An automation rule is not showing the name of the associated project(s). Instead, it shows an ID.

Diagnosis

When viewing the list of automation rules from the Global automation page, a numeric ID shows under 'Scope' instead of a project name.

When you access the Rule's details, it displays the same ID next to an "Unavailable value" error message.

While in this state, it's not possible to apply any changes to the automation rule unless a valid option is selected for the rule's scope.

Cause

This happens when a project is deleted or moved to the trash. Automation rules store project IDs as references to define the rule's scope, so when a project is no longer available, the numeric ID is the only associated information left.

You can find the complete details about deleting, moving to the trash, and restoring a project on Trash for Jira Cloud projects.

Solution

To fix the affected rules, you can either Restore a project from trash, or select an available project to associate with your rule from the Rule details page.
