How to add "Product Admin" for Jira Cloud

Summary

We often encounter cases where customers find it difficult to add users to Jira as product admins as only "User" is available.

Diagnosis

Unlike Confluence, which offers both "User" and "Product Admin" roles upon user creation, Jira only displays the "User" role option, leading to a less intuitive experience.

Cause

For Jira, an extra product is available in the product list, and that is "JIRA ADMINISTRATION." All users who need to be added as Jira product admins must be members of this product.

Solution

  1. Navigate to admin.atlassian.com > Select your Organization > Products > Jira Administration > Manage Access. 

  2. Add User/groups with the role "Product Admin".
