Disable team-managed projects in Jira cloud

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.

Summary

If you wish to prevent the creation of team-managed projects in Jira Cloud, there is a global permission to control this.

Solution

Remove "Create team-managed projects" global permission

When this permission is removed, nobody except those with the Administer Jira global permission can create new team-managed projects.

Removing this permission does not delete existing team-managed projects.

  1. Navigate to Settings > System

  2. Select Global permissions under Security in the navigation sidebar

  3. Scroll to the Create team-managed projects global permission

  4. Remove any unwanted access to this permission

Even if all access to this global permission is revoked, users with the Administer Jira global permission will always be able to create new team-managed projects.

Please refer to JSWCLOUD-21477 - Ability to disable team-managed project for updates.
