Your Hipchat team is the entire group of users who have access to chat in your Hipchat Data Center deployment. Only the Owner account can change settings for the entire team.

The team Owner is usually the person who deployed Hipchat Data Center. The team Owner is an administrator, but they are the only account which can change the following team-wide settings.

On this page:

People with the admin role can administer other Hipchat features, but cannot administer the team.

Change the team name

You can view the team and change its name.

  1. Browse to the fully qualified domain name of your Hipchat Data Center, and log in using your admin credentials.
  2. Click System > Team info.
The Team name field shows the team name you set when you configured Hipchat Data Center. In the Hipchat web and desktop apps, this name appears at the top of the app.
  3. Type a new team name in the Team name field.
  4. 保存をクリックします。

Change the team owner

A team can have only one owner, and this is typically the person who installed Hipchat Data Center. If you are the team owner, you can transfer ownership to another user. Once you transfer ownership, you can no longer administer the team.

  1. Browse to the fully qualified domain name of your Hipchat Data Center, and log in using your admin credentials.
  2. Click User management, and find the user who will be the new team owner.
  3. Click the user's name to edit their profile.
  4. Click Transfer Ownership at the bottom of the profile.
  5. In the Owner field, select a new team owner. (This means you won't be able to administer the team anymore.)
  6. 保存をクリックします。

Set chat history retention

By default, Hipchat Data Center retains all chat history for your team. You can choose to retain less chat history.

  • You can choose to retain no chat history.
Hipchat Data Center hides, but does not delete files, links, and existing chat history. Hipchat Data Center stops retaining new chat messages.
  • You can retain chat history in a rolling window (from 7 to 365 days)
Each night, Hipchat Data Center deletes any chat messages, files, and links older than the specified retention age. For example, if you choose to store 180 days of chat history, Hipchat Data Center deletes all messages, files, and links older than 180 days.

  • You can override the team-level chat history settings on a room-by-room basis.
This means that even if your team is set to delete all history after 90 days, you might have rooms that have a longer retention history.

Hipchat Data Center stores your team's chat history, including messages, files, and links on the servers you deployed.

Setting history retention for your whole team

  1. Browse to the fully qualified domain name of your Hipchat Data Center, and log in using your admin credentials.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. In the History retention field, select how much chat history you want to retain for your group.
Important: See the effects of each option described above.
  4. 保存をクリックします。

Setting history retention for a room

By default, Hipchat rooms use the team's retention setting, but administrators can override this setting in individual rooms. This means that some rooms can retain more history than your Hipchat Data Center team. For example, an administrator can choose to retain all history in a room, even when the team is set to retain only 90 days of history.

  1. Browse to the fully qualified domain name of your Hipchat Data Center, and log in using your admin credentials.
  2. Click Rooms, and locate the room you want to set the retention in.
  3. Click the room name, then click the History retention tab.
  4. Select the new chat history setting for the room.
Important: See the effects of each option described above.
  5. 保存をクリックします。
