Unable to edit/create pages with Error creating bean with name 'defaultServletHandlerMapping' in logs

Cause
There is a misconfiguration of the <confluence-install>/conf/web.xml file which throws this error and affects Collaborative Editing, preventing the creation/edition of pages. The file is missing the following parameter, regarding the default servlet, which is in it by default:

Check if the <confluence-install>/conf/web.xml file has the DefaultServlet class in it and if any changes were done to it, either correct its syntax or restore it to its default value.
