Summary

During the migration planning phase, it is normal to wonder if it is possible to use the same Confluence license on two machines.

This article explains how to use your purchased software license when migrating Confluence between two servers.

Environment

Confluence Server and Data Center

Information

We can not use the same commercial license on two machines at the same time.

For each software license purchased, it can be applied to only one production site at a time as per the Customer Agreement.

For migrations, please create a Developer license and apply it to your new server, as follows:

  1. Create a new Developer license for the migration.

  2. Assign the Developer license for the new server (the plugins might not work properly because of the different licenses) and perform the migration.

  3. After the migration is done, shut down and decommission the old Production instance.

  4. Update the commercial license on the new server
