Can I edit messages in HipChat?
You can edit HipChat messages using Slash commands. Slash commands are text to type in the message editor, just as a regular message, except that it will trigger an action.
Here are examples of a few use cases:
- For editing sent messages or replacing keywords:
If your original message is: "Is anybody heer ready to take a break for lunch?"
You can correct it by typing: "s/heer/here"
You will notice that your original message has been edited directly in the thread, for all the users.
- For deleting sent messages:
Similarly, you can delete a message by editing the original message with a single blank space.
If your original message is: "Is anybody here ready to take a break for lunch?"
You can correct it by typing: "s/Is anybody here ready to take a break for lunch?/"
You will notice that your original message has been deleted from the thread, for all the users.
Slash commands will only work for your last message sent. By using Slash commands, you cannot edit someone else's comment, and you cannot edit your previous comments.
If you look for an easier, more accessible, way to edit or delete sent messages, it's a feature that we have implemented in our product Stride.
